Mijas is divided into three different areas or neighborhoods you could say. It is Mijas Pueblo, which is the part that is up in the mountains, Las Lagunas, which is a modern built-up residential area, and Mijas Costa, which is a 12 km long coastal strip with various small resorts, where La Cala de Mijas is located in the middle.

One of Mijas Costa's longest beaches is called Calahonda and is over 4,500 meters long and 25 meters wide. The beach is right next to the town of Calahonda and is therefore a very popular beach.
