San Pedro is located in the municipality of Marbella and has become very popular in recent years. A driving factor has been the construction of the tunnel under the city, which removed the motorway traffic.
They have also built a boulevard with playgrounds and bars, which has become a popular meeting place for both locals and tourists.
The promenade between San Pedro and Puerto Banús has several nice beach restaurants, bars, outdoor gyms and playgrounds for children.

In the early 2000s, a new area of San Pedro began to emerge called Nueva Alcantara.
